The MetroFibre Team 03 Nov 2025 Share on ![Why Choose Fibre?](https://blog.metrofibre.co.za/hubfs/Why%20choose%20fibre-2.png) Share on Reading Time: 3 minutes  ## MetroFibre vs. LTE Routers: What’s the Real Difference?    ### Tired of Slow Internet? Your Router Might Be the Reason     If you’ve ever tried streaming, gaming, or working over an LTE router, you’ve probably run into one (or all) of these:  - 📉 Inconsistent speeds  - 🚫 Connection drops  - 🔁 Constant reboots  - 😡 Frustrating lag during calls or downloads  So what’s actually better – sticking with an LTE router, or switching to our **Uncapped.Unlimited.Unbeatable. Super fast fibre internet?**  Let’s break it down.    ### **What is an LTE Router, Really?**  LTE routers use mobile networks (like 4G or 5G) to connect you to the internet. They're portable and easy to set up, but... that's about where the benefits end.  Here’s what they *don’t* tell you:  - 📦 **It’s built for mobility, not for home power use**  - 📶 **Signal strength can change by the hour** (and is definitely affected by the weather)  - 📊 **Performance depends on cell tower load** – the more users nearby, the slower your connection  - 🔋 **Needs frequent restarts** just to stay stable  Great for emergencies. Not great for powering your home.    ### **MetroFibre: Built for Real-Life Internet Use**  Our fibre internet is a fixed-line connection - hardwired to your home. It delivers consistent, high-speed internet, no matter how many people are online in your area.  Here’s what you get:  ✔ **Unshaped, unthrottled speeds** – all day, every day  ✔ **Low latency** – perfect for gaming, video calls, and streaming  ✔ **No signal interference** – weather, trees, or tower traffic don’t touch it  ✔ **Stable connections for smart homes** – security cameras, alarms, TVs, and work setups just work    ### **Speed Test: MetroFibre vs. LTE**  | **Feature**  | **MetroFibre**  | **LTE Router**  | | --- | --- | --- | | Average Speed  | Consistent, up to 1Gbps+  | Varies, often under 50Mbps  | | Reliability  | Rock-solid  | Depends on signal strength  | | Latency (Ping)  | Low (great for gaming/streaming)  | High (lags often)  | | Data Limits  | Uncapped  | Usually capped or expensive  | | Setup  | Installed once, then done  | Plug-and-play, but unstable  |   ### **MetroFibre Tip:**  If you’re using LTE as your home’s main connection and constantly topping up data or dealing with dropouts - you’re probably paying more for *less*.  Our fibre costs less in the long run, with stable performance and no surprise top ups required.    ### **Still Using LTE at Home? It’s Time for a Real Upgrade.**  Ditch the lag. Stop buffering. Go with fibre internet that actually delivers.  📞 Call us on **087 151 4000**  📧 Email [**FTTHSales@metrofibre.co.za**](mailto:FTTHSales@metrofibre.co.za) to get connected or upgrade today.  ##### Share this post ##### Business ### Stay in touch with us We hate spam, just as much as you do.
